Adding a Panopto Video in Blackboard: Instructors

Summary

Learn how to add a Panopto video to a Blackboard Original or Blackboard Ultra course.

Body

Description

While user groups are created during the course provisioning process, users are not automatically added to their respective groups. A user first has to log in to Panopto, and through a background process, they are added or removed from the necessary user groups. This enrollment sync is completed upon a user's login to Panopto through Blackboard by accessing the recording as a Panopto Video Link.

Environment

Mac, PC, web browser

Solution

Add a Panopto Video in Blackboard Original

  1. Login to Blackboard at blackboard.ohio.edu

  1. Navigate to the course for which you would like to upload the recorded lecture or presentation.

  1. On the left navigation panel, select the content section where you would like to upload the recording.

  • Hover your mouse over Tools and select Panopto Recordings in the list.

  • Select "add content" button shown as the + plus symbol found at the very end of the text boxes tool list.

  • In the Add Content window scroll to the bottom of the list and choose Panopto Embedded Video.

  • In the Panopto Embedded Video window find the video you wish to use and select it by selecting the radio button next to the video.

  • Select Video Embed Options to reveal the optional settings and adjust as necessary.

  • Select Insert to add the recording to the content area in your Blackboard course.

  • Select Sumbit.

Add a Panopto Video in Blackboard Ultra

  1. Log in to Blackboard at blackboard.ohio.edu

  2. Navigate to the course for which you would like to upload the recorded lecture or presentation.

  3. Select the content section where you would like to upload the recording.

  4. Hover your mouse just under the content so that the add new section plus sign emerges. Select the plus sign and select Content Market from the list.

  5. You will see four Panopto cards in the list. Select the Panopto Embedded Video card which does not have the plus sign in the lower right hand corner.

    • Select the appropriate video in the list choosing the radio button to the left of the video title.

    • Select Video Embed Options to reveal the optional settings and adjust as necessary.

    • Select Insert to add the recording to the content area in your Blackboard course.

  • Note: To edit the title of the recording, in an item's row, open the menu to access the Edit functions. Hover your mouse over the title so the pencil icon appears. Select the pencil icon to edit the title. Select Save to submit the change.

User permissions can also be forced when the user logs in to Panopto through Blackboard by accessing the "Panopto Course Tool" tool link. This workflow is helpful when permission is necessary for embedded videos within a course. Note, users should only have to do this once per term, so that their Panopto account is added to the Blackboard-associated Panopto groups in your course.

Outcome: You should now be able to add a Panopto video to a Blackboard Original or Ultra course.
