Sharing Course Materials from Concluded Courses

Summary

Because Canvas does not allow the addition of users to a course after the course has ended, this article provides solutions for sharing course content from past courses with instructors, TAs and other users without giving them access to the course.

Body

Description

Share exported content with colleagues

  1. Log into Canvas at: canvas.ohio.edu.
  2. On the Courses tab on the left global navigation menu, navigate to the course where you would like to export content.
  3. In the course navigation panel select the Settings option.
  4. On the far-right list of options, select Export Course Content.
  5. On the Content Exports page ensure that the Course radio button is selected and then select the Create Export which will trigger the export to begin.
  6. Once the export is completed it will be listed as Course Export under the Content Export portion of the page.
  7. The export will automatically begin to download.
  8. Once downloaded, the export can be found in the Downloads folder on your computer.
  9. The export can be sent via email or can be saved in OneDrive and shared via a link.
    1. You can find information on sharing files with OneDrive on our Getting Started with OneDrive article.

Add content to a self service course and share the course with colleagues

  1. Instructors should log into Canvas, on the Dashboard select Start a New Course.
    • You will be prompted to provide a name for the course
  2. Once the course has been created, you can follow the instructions provided in the How do I copy content from another Canvas course using the Course Import Tool? help article from Canvas to copy the content from the concluded course into the new course.
  3. After content is copied, add your colleague as an instructor to the newly created course following the instructions provided in the "Adding and Removing TAs, Instructors, and Other Users in a Canvas Course" help article.
