This article describes how to set up the BobcatRAS (Bobcat Remote Access Service) Secure Client by Cisco to access the DCVPN on Windows machines.

Removing the Old VPN

If you currently use a VPN associated with Duo Mobile (the old multi-factor authentication app) or the current Campus VPN, you will want to remove it before installing BobcatRAS. If you do not currently use a VPN, skip this section and go to First Time Setup 

To discover which version of Windows your device is running, search for and open the Run app in the start menu, or by pressing the Windows key + R. Type "winver" in the Open field, and then select OK. Your device's version of Windows will appear.

On Windows 10

  1. Select the network icon in the bottom right corner of the menu bar.

  2. Select VPN.

  3. Select more VPN settings.

  4. Select the VPN that you would like to uninstall.

  5. Select Remove.

On Windows 11

  1. Open the start menu (the blue square icon in the lower left corner).

  2. In the search bar, type "VPN".

  3. Select the VPN settings search result.

  4. Select the VPN that you would like to uninstall.

  5. Select Remove.

First Time Setup

You must have Azure Multi-Factor Authentication set up to complete the steps below. You can only connect to VPN if your multi-factor authentication method is set to Microsoft Authenticator app - notification or a phone call. You cannot connect through a text message or token. If you need to change your authentication method, follow the instructions in Changing your default authentication method.

Note: Any reference to AnyConnect or Cisco Secure Client is referring to BobcatRAS. BobcatRAS is OHIO’s version of the AnyConnect client.

Unmanaged/Personal Windows Computer

An unmanaged computer refers to a computer that does not require an OHIO login to access the computer and can be a personal computer.

  1. If you do not have access to the Software Center, navigate to https://bobcatras.ohio.edu/DCVPN. Single sign-on with your OHIO account and on the "Cisco Secure Client Download" page, select the "Download for Windows" button to download the installation package for your operating system (Windows).

  2. Locate and open the downloaded installation package.

  3. Follow the installation steps by accepting and installing the AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.

  4. When it asks if you want to allow this app to make changes, choose Yes to proceed with Installation.

  5. Click Finish to exit the setup wizard.  You have successfully installed the Ohio University DCVPN, Cisco Secure Client (BobcatRAS) and it is now ready for use. Follow the instructions on How to connect/disconnect.

Managed Windows Computer

A managed computer refers to a computer that requires an OHIO log-in to access the computer.

  1. Open the Company Portal application by selecting your Start Menu, typing “company portal” then selecting Open.

  2. In the search field, enter “BobcatRAS VPN” and select Enter. Select BobcatRAS VPN and follow the prompts to install.

  3. You have successfully installed the Ohio University Campus VPN, Cisco Secure Client (BobcatRAS), and it is now ready for use. Follow the instructions on How to connect/disconnect.

How to Connect/Disconnect

To Connect

  1. Launch the Cisco Secure Client from the Start Menu.

  2. Enter bobcatRAS.ohio.edu/DCVPN in the box next to the Connect button.

    1. Note: Next time you run the VPN it will only show the words BobcatRAS.  This is normal and you do not have to enter the VPN name again.

  3. Select Connect to establish a secure VPN connection.

  4. Single sign-on with your OHIO email and password. You will be prompted to approve your VPN access on your phone by the Microsoft Authenticator App.

    Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)NOTE: After successfully approving the Microsoft Authenticator App’s push notification you will see a message about security policies applied to your VPN session and a identify that was used to determine your level of access.
  5. Once approved you will be successfully connected to the Ohio University Campus VPN, Cisco Secure Client (BobcatRAS).

To Disconnect

  1. Launch the Cisco Secure Client from the start menu.

  2. Select Disconnect.

Note: All VPN sessions will automatically disconnect after 12 hours.
