Description

OIT offers personal websites for individuals on a people.ohio.edu/your-OHIOID URL. A basic installation of WordPress is installed on all sites, and users may leverage WordPress as their content management system. However, no support is provided by OIT for WordPress training or migration. Individuals may continue to use HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for their websites but no direct FTP access is provided, and files must be managed via the WordPress File Manager using a web browser. Personal Websites are for the purposes of sharing professional work, publications or related materials pertaining to the activities of Ohio University.

  • Note: OHIO's Research Division offers research websites for faculty that are current researchers through OpenScholar.

  • Each site has a unique URL for administration, with the following format:

    • https://sites.ohio.edu/OHIOID/wp-login.php

How to request access

Terms of use

  • Not to be used for official or departmental web sites

  • Not to be used for course materials or research websites (current researchers may use OpenScholar for research websites)

  • No OHIO logos or marks may be used on personal pages

  • No selling of goods or services

  • OHIO digital policies apply

  • OIT does not provide support or training for personal web pages

  • No FTP (file transfer protocol) or SFTP (secure file transfer protocol) access is possible. File management must be done through the web browser file manager provisioned with the site

  • This service is not intended for use as an archive of old websites or file storage.

  • Daily Data Backups

    • DreamHost makes no guarantee about keeping backups of data and recommends keeping your own off-DreamHost backups of all important data. OIT does not make or retain any backups of personal websites. 

    • Backups are taken once per day and replace the previous day's backup. Requests for restoring a backup must be made prior to the next backup or the old data will be overwritten.
