For sensitive data or for cases where you need to be able to recover a lost or forgotten encryption key, you should use PGP Encryption.

How to Install

In Applications, open Self Service.

Select FileVault2 Encryption.

Click the enable button and follow the steps in the FileVault2 dialog to encrypt your hard drive and securely store your key.
