Request Blackboard Course Deletion

Description

Course Instructors and Organization Leaders now have the ability to request that courses and organizations be deleted from Blackboard.

Environment

Blackboard in your web browser

Solution

What is appropriate to delete?

  • Any organization or manually created course can be deleted upon request.

  • Academic courses, those that have a course ID that looks like MATH_1200_101_LEC_FALL_2022-23 can be deleted under either of the following circumstances:

  • The course is empty and was not used within Blackboard.

  • It has been more than 2 years since the course's end date.

Considerations before deleting a course or organization

  • Course/organization deletion is permanent; once a course/organization is deleted, the content cannot be recovered.  Make sure to save copies of any content you want to retain, including downloading a copy of your grade book.

  • If you co-taught the course with additional instructors, please consult with them to ensure they have copies of any content they would like before the course is deleted.
  • If you co-led the organization with additional leaders, please consult them to ensure they have copies of any content they would like before the organization is deleted.
