Old OneDrive links in Canvas stop working? Find and relink your files with Microsoft Education.

Description

Microsoft retired the legacy OneDrive integration for Canvas in September 2026. If content in your Canvas course was shared using the old OneDrive tool, links and embedded files may no longer work. Your content has not been deleted and is still available in your Ohio University OneDrive. This article explains how to find those files and relink them using the Microsoft Education integration.

Solution

How to Find Your Files

  1. Open your Ohio University OneDrive

  1. Check My Files and Recent for documents you previously shared in Canvas.

  1. Use the OneDrive search bar and search for:

    1. File names

    2. Assignment names

    3. Course names

    4. Keywords contained in the document

  2. You can also search directly from the Microsoft Education integration in Canvas by opening the OneDrive application and using the Filter feature to search by name or person.

Relink Content in Canvas

Once you've located the file, re-add it to your course using the Microsoft Education integration. Existing content from the legacy OneDrive tool must be manually relinked after retirement. Follow guidance from the Using the Microsoft Education Integration in Canvas page to link your content.
