Roles 

If you are a participant in a Blackboard organization or in any other role, such as a Leader, visit our Help & Resources: Blackboard page for help content relevant for you. 

Organization Role

Privileges 

Leader 

Instructor 

Full access, including the ability to bulk delete all course content  

Assistant 

Teaching Assistant 

Same as Instructor/Leader, except cannot bulk delete content  

Organization Builder 

Course Builder 

Can build and modify any content, but cannot see Grade Center  

Librarian 

Librarian 

Can build and modify some content (see below), and can modify grades  

Participant 

Student 

Can participate in the content that has been specifically assigned to them by the other roles  

Specific Librarian role privileges:

  • Access courses that are not available  

  • Create an Announcement  

  • Create and Deploy Tests  

  • Access Files  

  • Send Email  

  • Access the Grade Center  

  • Use Date Management  

  • Use Calendars  

  • Use Messages, if they are turned on in the course  

  • Create Discussion Board Forums  

  • Create and View Goals  

  • Take Attendance  

  • Edit the Glossary  

  • Create Groups  

  • Create Blogs, Journals, and Wikis  

  • Create Materials  

  • View Rubrics  

  • Create Assignments
