Resolving SafeAssign submission failure for group assignments in Blackboard

Description

The SafeAssign plagiarism detection service does not function when the assignment is configured for group submissions and the submission includes a file attachment. File attachment submissions to group assignments receive a red banner error message, "Failed to submit Assignment. Please try again."  

Environment

PC and Mac, group assignments in Blackboard

Solution 

  • Use the "Write Submission" option instead of attaching a file.
    • Blackboard assignments offer a full Rich Text Editor for the submission area, which can be used to format the text.
    • Content can also be composed in a separate application and then copied and pasted into the Rich Text Editor. 
  • Alternatively, use the individual submission format in conjunction with SafeAssign for file attachment submissions. 

 

Outcome: You should now be able to submit group assignments using SafeAssign.
