What is it?
Lenovo Systems Update is an application that users install on Lenovo laptops. This application works with a specific Lenovo device to see what patches and updates are available from Lenovo. These continual patches and updates are sent by the manufacturer to continually optimize the device’s performance. These updates are intended to be installed by the end user to ensure the security and performance of the device are maintained for the life of the device.
What does it do?
Lenovo Systems Update automates patch and update management for Lenovo devices. It checks the local repository or Lenovo's support site for updates. These updates are essential to maintain the health of the Lenovo device. Some of the things that can be done in a systems update are updating device drivers or software for components like the fan, camera, and processor in the device.
It is important to note that these updates are handled on a different schedule than OIT managed Operating System (OS) updates or patches.
How do I use it?
The Lenovo Systems Update should be used to keep your device updated with the latest software are drivers for your device.

Close all other programs and applications.

Confirm you are connected to AC Power or Docking Station.

In the lower left of screen, in the Type here to search field type system update. Select Lenovo System Update from the list of results. The program will start.

The program will start and provide a System Update Welcome screen. Select Next.

The program will search for and download available updates.

If prompted to update the System Update tool select OK.

Lists of available critical, recommended, and optional updates will be displayed in three tabs. On the Critical, Recommended, and Optional tabs, check the Select All check box at the top of the screen to select all the updates.

When prompted to download the updates, Select Download.

When prompted to restart your computer, select Yes.

The updates will begin downloading.

You may be required to restart to complete the process.

When you reboot and log on after step 11, if there are remaining pending updates the System Update tool will launch and continue. This is sometimes necessary if there are multiple updates requiring reboot and/or updates that cannot be installed simultaneously. In this case just continue following the on-screen prompts.
Outcome: Performing these steps on a regular basis will help maintain your device in a secure manner.
