Tags HCOM CHP

Overview

HCOM's Community Health Programs will sometimes need access to a VDI to download and store PDF documents with protected health information. These instructions explain how to install VMWare Client, access the Virtual Desktop, and sign into to Adobe Acrobat to manage the PDFs.

Installing VMWare Client

  1. Download VMWare: Download VMware Horizon Clients - VMware Customer Connect
    • Select 'Download Now'
    • Open the file downloaded, if it disappears on you, you can find it again by going to the download button in the top right hand corner of your webpage or find it in your Downloads folder.

    • Yes, you will want this to make changes to your device

Add to Server

After installation, it will ask you to add a server.

  • Click 'Add Server' and enter "mydesktop.ohio.edu"
  • Click 'Connect'
    • Note: You will only need to do this initially after installing the client.

  • Once Connected, you'll select 'Bobcat Virtual Secure'
  • Click on the Ellipses() and select 'Launch'.
    • Note: It may take a minute or two to load, be sure to select 'Deny' for drive sharing.

  • Once you are in the VDI environment, if it asks you to sign in to sync data, you DO NOT want to do this.
  • For navigation, you will see a menu at the top of the VDI window that allows you to Exit Full Screen.  This may help you navigate within the VDI window and still see your own desktop.
  • Within the desktop of the VDI, you'll find a shortcut to OneDrive and Salesforce

Accessing the VDI

To access the VDI moving forward, go to the Windows button at the very bottom of your computer screen, start typing VMware and it should then bring up the icon for it to the right, select ‘Open’

  •
  • To make it easier moving forward to access the VDI, while the client is open, go to the very bottom of your screen, right click and select ‘Pin to taskbar’. This will save the client to your task manager tray.

Adobe Acrobat Instructions

  • Open Adobe Acrobat and sign into Creative Cloud using your full email address to authenticate and use the Adobe Acrobat application prior to working with the student files.

  • Authenticate using Multifactor Authentication
  • Creative Cloud will open. Under installed, choose the Adobe Acrobat App to Open it.

  • Wait for the dialogue box to appear and choose 'Yes' to set Adobe Acrobat as your default pdf application.

  • Close Adobe Acrobat. Be careful not to close the VDI window.
