Changes to Microsoft Teams Integrations Impact Summer Courses

Description

Microsoft has announced that they will be ending their current integrations for Teams Classes and Teams Meetings for all learning management systems worldwide on June 15, 2025. This includes the integrations that Ohio University currently has within Blackboard and Canvas.

Environment

  • Blackboard Original courses
  • Blackboard Ultra courses
  • Canvas courses using Microsoft Teams Classes or Microsoft Teams Meetings integrations

Solution

Additional Context

Microsoft is currently in the process of building a new single integration that will allow instructors to use Teams Classes, Teams Meetings, Teams Assignments, OneDrive, OneNote and Reflect within LMS courses.  They are not certain that the development of this new integration will be completed by June 15.  Regardless of the status of the new integration, the existing integrations for Teams Classes and Teams Meetings will be disabled on June 15, 2025.  Existing Teams Classes and Teams Meetings that are created before the integrations retire on June 15 will not be deleted, but there will no longer be a link within your LMS courses that will take you to that content.

Note: The OneDrive and Teams Assignment integrations (coming May 8, 2025) will not be impacted by this June 15 deadline.

What’s the Plan?

As soon as development is finished on the new integration, OIT will begin the testing an implementation process to have the new integration installed within Blackboard and Canvas.

  • If the new integration is not ready before the June 15, 2025
    • First summer and full summer courses will be able to continue using the Teams Classes and Teams Meetings that were generated by the integrations AND you will need to create manual links to share these items within your Canvas courses.
  • If the new integration is not ready before the start of second summer
    • Instructors of those courses will be provided with alternative instructions for creating Teams Classes and getting your students added to those Teams Classes.

Note: If any summer instructors need to create new Teams Meetings while we are without the integration, you can do so within your Teams Classes channels or via direct invitation to the individual students.

As more information becomes available from Microsoft, we will update this article to reflect those changes.
