Getting Started with Azure MFA

Why is multi-factor authentication important?

There is a continued uptick in cyber attacks aimed at higher education, often targeting sensitive student data.

Passwords are increasingly easy to compromise. They can often be stolen, guessed, or hacked — you might not even know someone is accessing your account.

Multi-factor authentication adds a second layer of security by adding a verification step to OHIO log-ins, keeping your account secure even if your password is compromised. With Azure Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), you'll be alerted right away if someone is trying to log in as you. This second factor of authentication is separate and independent from your username and password.

Enrolling in Azure Multi-Factor Authentication

Everyone with an OHIO ID is required to enroll in Azure multi-factor authentication to protect their sensitive information. Enrolling in Azure MFA is easy and should only take you about ten minutes. See our step-by-step instructions to enroll.

Accessing the VPN

If you are a faculty or staff member who would like to use the VPN, you must install an Azure-compatible VPN. View installment instructions corresponding to your device below.
