Getting Started with Azure Multi-Factor Authentication

Table of Contents

Why is multi-factor authentication important?

There is a continued up tick in cyber attacks aimed at higher education, often targeting sensitive student data.

Passwords are increasingly easy to compromise. They can often be stolen, guessed, or hacked — you might not even know someone is accessing your account.

Multi-factor authentication adds a second layer of security by adding a verification step to OHIO logins, keeping your account secure even if your password is compromised. With Azure Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), you'll be alerted right away if someone is trying to log in as you.

This second factor of authentication is separate and independent from your username and password.

Enrolling in Azure Multi-Factor Authentication

Enrolling in Azure MFA is easy and should only take you about five minutes. See our step-by-step instructions to enroll.

Accessing the VPN

VPN servers that are compatible with Azure MFA are now available. Review Accessing the VPN with Azure MFA: Windows or Accessing the VPN with Azure MFA: Mac OS for instructions.
