Research & Scholarly Activities, Research Disseminations, & Elective Research Rotations - How to Submit

Overview

In accordance with Heritage College Policy 2.22, all students conducting internal (inside Ohio University) or external (outside Ohio University) research or scholarly activity must follow all Heritage College and Ohio University research and scholarly activities policies and procedures and register their research and scholarly activities with the Office of Research and Grants (ORG) through their student portals. 

Additionally, medical students are expected to inform the Heritage College Office of Research and Grants of all research and scholarly activity dissemination activities (e.g., publications, external research presentations, honors and awards) associated with student research and scholarly activities.

Lastly, Elective Research Rotation (ERR) applications can be submitted through the student portal. ERR Applications must be submitted 60 days prior to the rotation starting. 

Accessing the Student Portal and Logging In

The Student Portal can be accessed using the following link: https://ouhcom.my.site.com/students/. You will use your OHIO email and password to log in. 

Upon logging in, you'll land on a homepage similar to the one pictured below. From here select "Research & Scholarly Activity Records". 

Submitting a Research or Scholarly Activity

The page that loads will provide detailed instructions, resources, and requirements regarding research activities, please be sure to read it thoroughly. To submit your first or a new research activity, click the "Create A New Research and Scholarly Activity Record" button. 

General Instructions for completing the form:

  •  You may not have all of the information required to complete this form on the first attempt. Please fill out the required fields (designated by the red bars) to be able to submit  the form and save it. Once it's saved, you can return to it as needed to provide additional details. 
  • The Office of Research and Grants (ORG) will not review or act on this form until you mark the form as "complete", by checking the box titled ""This Form is Complete," and clicking "Submit."
  • Depending on the answers you select, other form items may appear.

Submit or Save as needed. The ORG will not act on the form until the check-box highlighted above is checked. 

Viewing Research and Scholarly Activities

When you submit your activity, you'll return your Research and Scholarly Activity List Page. From here, you'll be able to navigate to each record to edit or view. Additionally, you can create new activity records and see the status of your activities on this page.

Submitting a Research Dissemination

Research Disseminations must be submitted for approved research activities. To submit a dissemination, navigate to the research activity you'd like to submit it for, from the list page shown above and click the record name (RA-XXXX). 

Your research activity will open, and you may select the 'Display Record Details' checkbox to see more information about your activity. If you don't need to review this information, scroll down to the Research Dissemination section and select 'Create a New Research Dissemination Record'. If you have existing dissemination records, you'll also see them in this section. 

From this page, select the type of dissemination (Publication, Presentation, Award/Honor, External Grant, or Other). Based on your selection, different fields will display for you to complete. Once finished, click 'Submit' and you will be directed back to your related Research Activity. You should see the new dissemination record in the list. 

Submitting an Elective Research Rotation Application

Elective Research Rotations must be submitted for approved research activities. To submit an Elective Research Rotation, navigate to the research activity you'd like to submit it for, from the Research and Scholarly Activities Page and click the appropriate record name (RA-XXXX). 

Your research activity will open, and you may select the 'Display Record Details' checkbox to see more information about your activity. If you don't need to review this information, scroll down to the Elective Research Rotation section and select 'Create a New Elective Research Rotation Application'. If you have existing applications, you'll also see them in this section.

  •  Depending on the answers you select, other form items may appear.
  • You may not have all of the information required to complete this form on the first attempt. Please fill out the required fields (designated by the red bars) to be able to submit  the form and save it. Clicking the 'Submit' button saves your responses. Once it's saved, you can return to it as needed to provide additional details. 
  • The Office of Research and Grants (ORG) will not review or act on this form until you mark the form as "complete", by checking the box titled ""This Form is Complete", and clicking "Submit."
  • This record will display as read-only once the "This Form is Complete" checkbox is checked. If you need to change answers once your record has been saved with "This Form is Complete" checked, contact Heritage College Office of Research and Grants (traineeresearch@ohio.edu).
