Microsoft 365

Description

Microsoft 365 (M365) is a subscription service that includes access to Microsoft applications, online productivity services, and business services such as web conferencing, hosted email, and online storage. It also includes mobile versions of Microsoft applications for smartphones and tablets.

Access

Sign in to Microsoft using your OHIO credentials (remember to use your full OHIO email address as your login ID). From any Microsoft page, use the Application Launcher (affectionately dubbed “the waffle”) in the upper left corner to access additional Microsoft 356 applications. The Launcher appears in all Microsoft 365 applications and is a quick connection to other Microsoft 365 tools available to you.

You can access Microsoft 365 from the following supported platforms:

  • Windows 

  • Mac

  • iOS, Android, Other Devices

  • Browsers - Current versions of Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Internet Explorer.

Note: You must have an active Microsoft 365 subscription (see below) before you can install Microsoft 365. 

Who can access

Microsoft 365 in your browser (A1 license)

  • Anyone with an OHIO email address

Microsoft 365 downloadable apps (A5 license)

  • Automatically included for:

    • All currently enrolled students

    • All full-time faculty and current instructors of record

    • All administrative staff

    • Classified staff with a demonstrated business need

    • All OUPD employees

  • Available by request only:

    • Other employees with demonstrated need

    • OHIO emeriti

How to request access

  • Adjunct Faculty

    • Adjunct faculty who are instructors of record for current courses will automatically have their license upgraded to an A5 license (browser and downloadable apps). Adjunct faculty who are not instructors of record for current courses will have their license reverted back to A1 (browser apps only).

    • If you are an Adjunct faculty but not a current instructor of record, Contact the IT Service Desk to request an upgraded A5 license Microsoft 365 subscription. Once the Service Desk has activated your subscription, follow the instructions below to install Microsoft 365.

  • Current Employees

    • If you are an eligible OHIO account holder who needs access to the Microsoft 365 downloadable apps, your manager can contact the IT Service Desk with the following information:

      • OHIO email address that needs the licensing change

      • The reason the employee needs increased access

    • Once the Service Desk has activated your subscription, the account holder can follow the instructions earlier on this page to install Microsoft 365.

    • Your manager will need to renew your Microsoft 365 subscription (at no charge) each year in June by submitting a new request. 

  • Emeriti

    • Contact the IT Service Desk to request or renew your Microsoft 365 subscription. Once the Service Desk has activated your subscription, follow the instructions below to install Microsoft 365.

    • You will need to renew your Microsoft 365 subscription (at no charge) each year in June. We will send you a reminder via email when it is time to renew.

  • Co-author in real-time (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Collaborate online and see others’ changes as they happen with real-time co-authoring.

    • Save your files to OneDrive so others can work on them with you.

  • Connect with coworkers right within the apps. For a more comprehensive collaboration and threaded conversations, check out Teams for online meetings, ongoing project conversations, and breakout chats.

  • Share files by simply sharing links to them, rather than passing around versions that can easily be mistaken or shuffled.

    • Version history helps make sure everyone is current.
