Connecting to Wi-Fi as a guest

Tags Internet

Description

OHIO University guests have multiple ways to connect to Wi-Fi. Guests can utilize open guest Wi-Fi connections or eduroam Wi-Fi depending on their eligibility.

Note: OHIO students, faculty, staff, emeriti, and participants from other eduroam institutions are all recommended to use the eduroam Wi-Fi network. You will experience a faster, better, more secure connection that is less likely to drop.

Environment

Android, iOS, PC, Mac, and web browser

Solution

Connecting to open guest Wi-Fi

For any University guest who is not eligible for eduroam, you can access an unsecured wireless network for an indefinite period of time.

  1. Search and connect to the "Ohio University Guest" Wi-Fi network

  2. Agree to the Terms and Conditions of network use

Limitations to note:

  • May be speed-limited

  • Cannot be used to access services that are restricted to campus network users (printers, AirMedia displays, departmental shared drives, etc.)

  • If you need higher performance or access to campus-only services, a current employee will need to sponsor your access.

Outcome: You should now be able to utilize the open guest Wi-Fi network.

Connecting to eduroam Wi-Fi

Current students, faculty, and staff from any participating eduroam institution can connect to the wireless network for an indefinite period of time.

  1. Follow the instructions on the Wi-Fi page to connect to eduroam.

  2. Log in using your home institution email address and password.

Outcome: You should now be able to utilize the eduroam Wi-Fi network.
