Domain name registration
	-

Domain name registration manages the ownership and Domain Name System (DNS) settings of the domain name

	-

Domain name registration does not include email hosting or website hosting.

A domain name registrar is a company or service where users can buy and manage domain names. Examples include Google Domains, GoDaddy, NameCheap, etc.
	- Some registrars place restrictions on when a domain name can be transferred based on how recently it was purchased or certain information was updated.

	-

Domain names must be “unlocked” prior to OIT requesting a transfer. The process to unlock your current domain name varies depending on where your domain name is currently registered.

	-

An authorization code from the current registrar is required to complete a domain name transfer. The process to obtain your domain’s authorization code varies depending on where your domain name is currently registered.

A domain name can be forwarded to another domain name or a page on another domain name.

	-

Email addresses can be forwarded from your domain (ex: user@mydomain.com) to another email address, such as your @ohio.edu email address. Note: Email forward is a 1-1 relationship and a single address cannot be forwarded to multiple other email addresses. To do this, please establish a service account or shared mailbox and forward the email to that address.
