Accessing Jabber

Windows

University-owned PC: Download from Software Center

  1. Make sure your computer is connected to the OHIO network (wired or eduroam wi-fi for on-campus, VPN for off-campus).

  2. Open your Start Menu.

  3. Choose All Programs | Microsoft Endpoint Manager | Software Center.

  4. Choose Jabber.

If your University-owned PC does not have the Software Center application, contact your departmental IT technician or the IT Service Desk to enroll in our PC Management service.

Personally-owned PC

For a personally owned device, navigate to the Jabber for Windows Download (link opens to a Cisco webpage).

Mac OS

University-owned MAC: Download from Self Service

  1. Make sure your computer is connected to the OHIO network (wired or eduroam wi-fi for on-campus, VPN for off-campus).

  2. Go to Finder.

  3. Under the Go menu choose Applications.

  4. Open Self Service.

  5. Choose Cisco Jabber.

  6. The software will install itself on your Mac within 1 hour.

If your University-owned Mac does not have the Self Service application, contact your departmental IT technician or the IT Service Desk to enroll in our Mac Management service.

Personally-owned Mac

  1. Connect to the Campus VPN. Even if you are on an OHIO campus and connected to eduroam wi-fi or a wired jack, the installer will not work unless you have connected to the VPN.

  2. Download Jabber for MAC (PKG). Your OHIO faculty/staff log in is required.

  3. Run the installer that you downloaded.

Log In

  1. Make sure your computer is connected to the OHIO network (wired or eduroam wi-fi for on-campus, VPN for off-campus).

  2. Open Jabber on your computer

  3. Login

    • For your first time logging in after downloading, enter your OHIO email address.

    • After that, you will use your OHIO ID (the part of your OHIO email address to the left of the @ symbol) and password

*You will not be able to log in until the IT Service Desk has processed your request for Jabber.
