Sending Quick Messages to Instructors in Canvas

Description

Canvas Inbox is a messaging tool used to communicate with a course, an instructor, an individual student, or a group of students within Canvas. Inbox can be accessed from the Global Navigation menu.

Environment

Canvas in your web browser or the Canvas Student app

Solution 

To send messages to your instructor quickly in Canvas

  1. Log in to Canvas at canvas.ohio.edu
  2. In the Global Navigation menu, select Get Help
  3. In the Get Help menu, select Ask your Instructor a Question 
  4. Under Which course is this question about, select the desired course
  5. Under Message, enter your message
  6. Select Send Message 

To view your instructor's response

Note: The new message indicator will appear in Canvas when you have new messages in your inbox

  1. Log in to Canvas at canvas.ohio.edu
  2. In the Global Navigation menu, select Inbox 
  3. Select the message that you wish to view, to display the message in the reading pane 
  4. Select the arrow in the reading pane, to reply to the message 
Review “How do I use the Inbox as a student?” for information on how to send messages to your instructors and classmates directly from the inbox.

Outcome: You should now be able to communicate with instructor in Canvas.
