Sharing Course Materials from Concluded Courses

Description

Instructors might need to grant access to completed courses in Canvas for colleagues who need to review and copy course content. This article provides solutions for this scenario. For more information about Canvas’ functionality with completed courses, please review our Canvas Experts Corner blog.

Share exported content with colleagues

  1. Log into Canvas at canvas.ohio.edu.
  2. On the Courses tab on the left global navigation menu, navigate to the course where you would like to export content.
  3. In the course navigation panel select the Settings option.
  4. On the far-right list of options, select Export Course Content.
  5. On the Content Exports page ensure that the Course radio button is selected and then select the Create Export which will trigger the export to begin.
  6. Once the export is completed it will be listed as Course Export under the Content Export portion of the page.
  7. The export will automatically begin to download.
  8. Once downloaded, the export can be found in the Downloads folder on your computer.
  9. The export can be sent via email or can be saved in OneDrive and shared via a link.

Add content to a manually created course and share the course with colleagues

  1. Instructors should submit a Canvas ticket to the IT Service Desk. Guidance has been provided for filling out the ticket below:
    1. Requester/Contact and Acct/Dept
      1. These two fields will populate automatically
    2. What kind of Canvas request are you making?
      1. Select the dropdown option: I am requesting a manually created course
    3. How many courses are you requesting?
      1. Select the number of manually created courses you would like to have created
    4. What do you want Course #1 to be named?
      1. Name the course in a way that makes sense for your purposes that includes the course ID (ANTH 1010) and section (100)
    5. Name and Ohio ID of the person(s) that you would like to be the Instructor(s)
      1. Include the Name and Ohio ID of the instructor you would like to share content with and your own Name and Ohio ID
    6. Which statement best describes your intended use for this course?
      1. From the dropdown select: I will use this course to create content that will be copied into courses for other instructors
    7. Description/Additional Details
      1. Enter the statement: I will use this course to share content with another instructor
    8. The final 2 fields, Additional People to Notify and Attachments can be left blank
    9. Select the Submit button
  2. Once you receive an update on your ticket that the course has been created and you have access to it in the Courses section of Canvas, you can follow the instructions provided in the How do I copy content from another Canvas course using the Course Import Tool? help article from Canvas.
  3. After content is copied, your colleague will have access to that content via the manually created course.
