Using SpeedGrader to Grade a Turnitin Assignment in Canvas

Description

When using the Turnitin Plagiarism framework option within Canvas, you will use the Canvas SpeedGrader option to grade that assignment.  Canvas makes a copy of student submissions to Turnitin and displays them in the SpeedGrader along with originality reports and similarity indexes. This article details how to access and use the Canvas SpeedGrader.

Solution

Review the Turnitin Similarity Report

  1. Log in to Canvas at canvas.ohio.edu 
  2. From the left green Global Navigation Menu, select Courses 
  3. Select the course where you would like to grade the Turnitin assignment.
  4. On the course navigation menu, select Assignments
  5. Select the Turnitin assignment's name.
  6. On the right of the screen, select SpeedGrader
  7. In the upper right corner of the page, select a student
  8. Select Turnitin percentage icon to enter Turnitin Feedback Studio
  9. Review similarities and adjust filters as needed. 

Annotate and Grade Student Work in SpeedGrader 

  1. In your web browser, return to SpeedGrader tab
  2. Annotate the student submission
  3. Under Assessment, add the student score 
  4. Under Assignment Comments, provide your student feedback
  5. If you wish to add video feedback, select the Media Comment icon 
  6. Select Submit to move to another student's assignment

Outcome: You should be able to grade Turnitin assignments with Canvas' Speedgrader.
