Submitting a Panopto video assignment in Canvas (Students)

This documentation covers how to create recordings with Panopto and submit them as assignments in Canvas.

Environment

Canvas in your web browser or the Canvas Student app

Solution

Add your Panopto Recording to a Canvas Assignment

1. Log in to Canvas at canvas.ohio.edu

2. Navigate to your course in Canvas

3. In the white Course Navigation menu, select and then to the Assignments 

4. Select the assignment that you need to submit

5. Select Text Entry to open the Text Editor

6. In the Text Editor, select the plug icon to expand the menu 
Note: if you are unable to see the plug icon, select the three dots to expand the Text Editor menu

7. Select Panopto Video.

8. Select the appropriate option for your submission

• Choose a video stored in Panopto
• Upload a video from your device

1.Select Upload

2. Select the video to embed (up to 100 video or audio files at a time)

3. Under Video Embed Options, choose your embedded player preferences

Note: Panopto will use this file name as the session name, but you can rename this under Topic Title while the content is uploading

4. Select Insert

• Record a new video

1.Select Record 

2. Under Name your recording, add a title for your video

3. Select Launch Capture or Launch App to record with Panopto for Windows or Panopto for Mac

4. Update you recording preferences for Audio, Video, and Screens and Apps 

5. After recording your video, return to the Canvas tab in your browser

6. Under Video Embed Options, choose your embedded player preferences

7. Select Insert

9. Your video will appear in the assignment text editor.

10. Complete the rest of the assignment

11. Select Submit Assignment 

12. You will receive a message at the top of the screen that your assignment has been successfully submitted. Your teacher will now be able to watch your Panopto recording.

Outcome: Your Panopto video has been submitted.
