Sharing Panopto Content Between Blackboard and Canvas

Beginning June 25, 2025, Ohio University will merge Blackboard-linked Panopto accounts with Canvas-linked Panopto accounts. After this date, you will no longer need to manually share videos between the two systems. See Panopto Account Merge Transition (June 2025) below for full details.

Description

When accessing Panopto via Canvas, your Blackboard content will not automatically appear, and vice versa. To view your videos in Canvas, you must manually share the content in your Blackboard account with your Canvas Panopto account. Note: Beginning June 25, 2025, a system-wide account merge will automatically make this process unnecessary. See the account merge section below for more information.

Environment

Blackboard, Canvas, Panopto

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Ensure you are using the correct login for both Blackboard and Canvas Panopto accounts.

  • Confirm that the correct folders were shared and that you have assigned yourself Creator access.

  • If folders are still not visible, clear your browser cache or try using a different browser.

Account Merge Transition (June 2025)

As part of Ohio University’s transition from Blackboard to Canvas, Blackboard-linked Panopto accounts will be merged with corresponding Canvas-linked Panopto accounts. This ensures your video content is retained and accessible after the transition without requiring manual sharing between accounts.

Timeline

  • Phase 1: Users with Panopto accounts in both Canvas and Blackboard (June 25-29, 2025)

  • Phase 2: HCOM users (July 8-10, 2025)

  • Phase 3: Users without a Canvas Panopto account and Nursing faculty teaching in Blackboard during Summer 2025 (August 18–21, 2025)

What to Expect

  • During the merge, all video content stored in your Blackboard-linked Panopto account will be associated with your Canvas-linked account.

  • Folder structure and permissions will be retained. No re-uploading or re-linking of content is necessary.

  • After the merge, your Blackboard-linked Panopto account will be removed.

Important Usage Guidance

  • Do not log into Panopto via Blackboard after the merge.

    • Doing so will create a new, empty Blackboard-linked Panopto account.

    • Any recordings made in this newly created account will not appear in Canvas and must be manually merged. Submit an OIT Panopto ticket to request a manual merge.

  • Always access Panopto through your Canvas-linked account after the merge is complete.

Troubleshooting

If your recordings appear to be missing:

  • Log in to Panopto through your Canvas-linked account and check your folders.

  • If you accidentally recorded content in a new Blackboard-linked account, submit an OIT Panopto ticket to request a manual merge.
